Fuze No.124. Any info please.

Post by timbo93 »

Hello all,

This came up on the beach last week. It was pretty crusty but cleaned up well.
It's a No.124 British fuze from a 2 pounder anti-aircraft 'pom pom' gun.
It's dated April 1925 and marked N GK, which I'm presuming is 'Navy' and George Kynoch of Birmingham? It's also marked 520 (?).
As you can see from the 303 bullet next to it , it's quite a tiddler! 52mm high x 32mm wide.
Looks identical to the earlier 121 which was widely used in WW1.
Any further info on the 124 would be very welcome. [81/]

Cheers,
Tim

Blimey - your 'before' and 'after' photos look a bit different! Just a comment on your excellent cleaning skills and research - I know virtually nowt about ordnance but hopefully some more interesting info will come up from the experts later [81/]

Fuzes aren't my strong point, but I think you're right with George Kynoch. The 'N' marking is certainly for Navy and '520' will be the lot number (or batch number). Interesting to have a 1925 date, with so many WW1 and WW2 dated ordnance around. ::g
That really is an astonishing bit of cleaning! Super job. ::g

Thanks Simon, [81/]
It scrubbed up better than I expected.

I was surprised at the date too, thought it was going to be WW1. Probably from the old garrison ranges nearby.

Thanks again. [81/]
