Tesoro Silver Sabre II

Post by dreuronics »

This is my first detector, any tips for getting started with it?
Where should I be setting the threshold? Should I change this every time I am using the detector? I picked up a pair of Garrett headphones to go with it, do noise cancelling make the difference?

I have been using the sensitivity at about 4/5, is this correct or should I change this?

There not a precision made detector, each one is slightly different as is the coil

They are a very very good detector

Headphones make a huge difference, no idea on the Garrett,

Several different versions

If it's got threshold, sensitivity and discrimination on the front

Coil out at waste height, press or toggle the pin point/all metal mode on

Turn the threshold up until it's a faint hum

Discrimination at its lowest, and sensitivity at its max

It will normally constantly chatter, turn the sensitivity down until it's stable

Sweep a clear bit of ground, if needed turn the sensitivity down to where it runs with no pops or squeaks

You want to run the discrimination, at its minimum without digging too much iron

Pinpoint each target carefully, swing over the exact center, Listen to the sound for slight break up of sound, you want the discrimination roughly where a large rusty nail bent at 90 is just starting not to give a clean sound, if you aren't digging a little iron it's probably a little high

Does take a little try and error

By reducing the threshold and sensitivity, while increasing the discrimination a bit can be used on some wet beaches but not all, not ideal

You'll soon get used to it, have a play about in the garden with coins, nails etc to get a feel for it, if you can maybe bury em at different depths this may help you too, using headphones will help, a good detector tho.
