My host in Lincoln has thrown in the towel

Post by leslie(nova scotia) »

After half a dozen years my host has given up the ghost. Look forward each year to crossing the big pond!

Looking for a new host in the UK who would not mind a guest for a few weeks of detecting. Will compensate ,pay for gas, lodging, meals and entry fees to digs.

Non smoker and social drinker with reference. Looking for Sept after the bank holiday.

Willing to do an exchange should anyone there want to venture to Canada.

Happy hunting and be safe!

If it’s any help there is a club in Colchester that does Metal Detecting holidays for those of you from across the drink…
They have a very useful website for finds, other than that, I have no knowledge of them. I thought it might be of interest to you though.

As you are coming over from Canada if you come on your own I can give you a good day out on a beach on the South Coast between Brighton to Bournemouth. You need to make your own way. Also I belong to a club, if you want to go as a guest you do not have to be a member, they are based in Hampshire and cover a big area...........Hot chicks are Central London!!!...... [49/]

They advertise here on a Canadian forum. I believe from talks with fellows over in the UK...they are seeded hunts. They charge and arm and a leg also.

Wow! I never knew that! I remember when I started out I contacted them and offered to help for free in return for detecting. It was a flat refusal.

Can't confirm Leslie's comments but - you don't charge overseas folks huge amounts of money for detecting holidays without some sort of promise of good finds, which have to come from somewhere......but they are a good ID resource for some items.

Good luck finding a new UK buddy for accommodation etc., Leslie - sorry I can't help with that - but I'm sure one or two of us would love to share a few beers with you when you do come over, if the opportunity arises.

Come on folks, join the ranks and let's get Leslie back detecting in the UK.
If Leslie can get tickets for detectival 2024 then I can play host to him. I'm going so that's the 7th and 8th september sorted. I can get him to my permission towards the end of the month, weekends but could Try and sort some weekdays out. During this time he is welcome to stay at my house.
ANYONE else willing to be host ???

That is a fantastic offer. PM me and see what we can work out. Willing to pay for the both of us for that event. Also need to get this years detecting insurance from the association. Great to feel I have something to look forward to as rather down knowing that I may not get back to the UK.

By the way may have a multitude of permissions in a certain area! In my 57th year detecting and one item left on the bucket list....a horde! [81/] [75/] =D>

Any reason why? I said what I said as I had multiple conversations with people I met at club and other rallies. The price I heard and no confirmation was around $10,000 Canadian for 10 days plus air fare.

With my host I payed everything and all inclusive including air :);/ fair get away with about $5,500.

I don’t really recall. I think it was just said that it’s for people on paid holidays only. That price does sound high.
