Back of the net and its a Golden hat trick
Out in the sunshine this afternoon.
Hot but with a decent breeze at times on pasture.
Wasnt finding much else but bottle tops and mootubes and then right out of the blue up popped this little blighter.
My third Gold coin in as many years.
My first was an 1862 sovereign and then a George III 1774 guinea.
The rest of the session was uneventful but I really didnt care.

Cheers pal. Though im obviously chuffed Can't say I was as excited for the third time finding a goldie though. Nothing ever beats debut finds.
I saw the rim sticking out of the turf and knew straight away by that unmistakable glean it was gold.
The farmer seemed more happy than i was has he knows he's getting half its value when it goes under The hammer.
Came up a solid 18 on the Nox 600 only three bars down (few inch)
There seem to be two ultra tiny W's etched into the bottom of Vickys bust if you look carefully.
Dont know what that's about.

Which will be why so many of the rest of us aren't finding any?
That sovereign truly is in remarkable condition!
According to Spink 'Coins of England' the 'W. W.' intials signify the "Engraverβs and/or designerβs initials", and in this instance he was William Wyon 1795-1851.Macsen Wledig wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 6:13 pm There seem to be two ultra tiny W's etched into the bottom of Vickys bust if you look carefully.

Very nice coin & well found! 3 in 3 years is a very good ratio

You only go round the block once! So you might as well go round it with a smile on your face

Well done on your third and a super find, even if you wasn't quite as excited as the first.

To be honest I'm a history weirdo and so I'm more excited by antiquity than I am by shiny new things.
I'd take a bronze age Axe or spearhead over a Victorian gold any day of the week.
Unless im really skint that week anyway
