Newbie & Permits for Crowne Estate ?

Post by IndianaJack »

Hi I'm brand new at this and bit confused... Detecting on the Crowne estate(Beaches) I've seen mentions that you need a permit such as this link that now doesn't seem to work!

The permit specific link:

Bit confused, as there are also pages on the Crowne estate that says you are granted permission as long as you follow the Treasure act.

Hoping the laws/permits might have changed and now you don't need a permit as long as you follow Treasure act ?

Thanks,

Indiana Jack

The Crown Estate website clearly sets out the correct position - you have a permissive right to detect on foreshore owned by the Estate, although this is of course subject to any restrictions such as SSSIs, foreshore leased to third parties, etc. - the purple areas shown on the map (click the link on the website) only show which areas are owned by the Crown Estate - it does not mean that you can detect on all those areas - you need to check first for any local restrictions or land designations.
