First find on first permission

Post by Beepbeeeeep »

By chance I overheard a guy on the same HGv course as me say he had fenced some land, this was enough for me to ask what type of land and weather or not I could detect on it. It turned out to be farm land (pasture) and permission was granted...over the moon😁 Two days later I was swinging my detector over the roughest pasture I've ever seen. The grass was 6-10 inches but I didn't care, atleast I was detecting something that wasn't a beach. As it turned out most of the field was infact a filled in quarry, the council dumped ash there until the quarry was filled.
The ground was littered with bits of iron to the point I nearly gave up. Finally on day two I found a Naval button and was so happy. It must have been a very high tide when the button was lost as i found it in the hills above Wrexham. I'll be back to detect on the last bit on Friday to see what else I can find.
The morel of the story is shy bairns get nowt, so don't be afraid to ask

It's almost certainly nothing to do with a 'High Tide'. This link probably provides the answer (Shoddy) to your Naval button being found on a high inland site...

Done a bit better today. 2 x Edward 7th pennies 1902 & 1910. 2 x George 5th pennies 1915 & 1929. George 5th half penny 1925. Also a Pratts Motor Spirit cap off a jerry can pre 1936 I think.
I've got about half a days detecting left so still a chance of finding more goodies before I'm back on the beaches.
