Detecting Beaches in Dover/Kent area (DDC)

Post by 16khz »

Hi All

I mentioned in another thread I'd contacted Dover District Council to check for metal detecting permission on the beaches. I got this reply a couple of hours ago:

Good Morning

Thank you for your email there is nothing in the beaches/foreshore byelaws that prohibits Metal Detecting.

Kind regards
Darren

Whoopee doo! :);/

Cheers

Steve

That explains why I've never had problems on their beaches. [81/] You still need to cross check with other sources as they don't manage or control all the beaches within their area.

Both Deal beach and Walmer beach have a lot of shingle above the high water line. This is above the Crown Estate foreshore but I've seen detectorists looking there with no problem. Mind you there's nothing to find, move along now. [88/]

Deal and Walmer beaches do occasionally throw up interesting stuff like milled gold but only when conditions are exactly right. It actually looked pretty good last week when I had a meal on the pier there. Shame that I hadn't got my detector with me. [81/]

Yes, I've done Deal beach many times and never had an issue. Worth knowing about checking who controls it though.

Happy Xmas
