The new enemy

Post by Guybrush »

[Rant]

I don't know what it is off of and I don't care but I'm increasingly coming across these blighters. Ring pulls I accept as a necessary evil but these give off an interesting signal and an interesting shape whilst pinpointing only to let you down upon their uncovering. With these on the increase and iron being put in coins, our jobs are going to get more challenging. :(

All ring pulls come with the territory, its the nature of the game we play,, if it was easy, everyone who could hold a Tector wold be at it.. ;)

Had a bottle with one on recently. It was my first encounter and I thought straight away where they are going to be turning up.
Besides any consequences for detecting, I don't like them as they are just litter that is going to happen.
Weren't ringpulls changed for that very reason? ie. made non detachable.
Having said that, the current ringpull design is horrid. The outside of the can gets pushed inside into the drink. Heaven only knows what has been on that can.

Bournemouth beach was littered with them, awful! I hope the first aid place had a lot of plasters in stock as I imagine lots of kid would have been cut by them this summer. I spent two hours down at Bournemouth on Thursday and 99% of the time I was either collecting up those or removing broken glass. It's hard to draw the line between it being your civil duty to pick up sharp things from where kids may play to being an unpaid dustman. I say unpaid, I did find 36p. :-L

hey Guy
these ring pulls mainly belong to energy drinks, very popular at the mo. i cut my foot on one last week out surfing .. the thing with our beach is the tourists leave it in an awful state. a sorry state of afairs.

Hi,
I'm not a grumpy type but metal detecting aside, there should a substantial fine for leaving this sort of thing on our beautiful beaches. they can be picked up by birds and when getting washed around in the water fish will readily eat them. Its a disgrace and personaly i have no issue asking people i see dropping litter to pick it up!!

I'm afraid its 'British Mentality' is the problem..

Went to a beach on Cyprus predominantly used by Germans. Absolutely clean.
Went to a beach frequented by the British the next day, 'stinking'. Fruit just thrown and rotting on the beach, bottles and cans just dumped, just rubbish discarded everywhere. Made me ashamed to admit that I was from the UK.

Looks like it may be more of a problem for the beaches, parks and footpaths, anywhere that people wander with drinks. All of my land is fields now and I still choose to avoid when possible, the fringes around the fields where doggy walkers go or next to a road where bottles get chucked over and the bottle caps give off a huge signal. I have got better at differentiating the tones but they are still a nuisance. Part of the territory and we have to work around the problem, do they all give the same ID reading? Liam B-)
