Hiya all,
I have just upgraded to an Exlorer SE, SEF coil after a year or two with my rather tired Explorer XS.
My question is this: I had a good feeling about targets and where they "sat" on the screen with the XS, but I find that I cannot apply this logic with the SE - are they THAT different ?
As an example - using exactly the same settings on the SE that I had on the XS:
I'm in Ferrous, Nails discrim, tone thresh 3, variability 10, gain 8, limits 8, Deep
I now find that "shottie caps" are all over the screen, well up into the coinage area on the SE whilst on the XS, they generally stayed bottom and a bit right of middle. I'm getting them showing up middle to upper right on the SE - doesn't seem right to me and am worried that this second-hand machine may have to be recalibrated ?????
Have "factory reset" it to be sure. It does find coins, but really likes a shotgun cap. Are there that many different Alloys within these caps as to allow them to be present ANYWHERE they like ?
Mainly, just need to know that these machines are THAT different. Unless anyone knows a way I can test this between both machines - was considering looking at the numerical values, but remembered the XS only has one.
Looking forward to any feedback.

I can't be of much help. Only to say that a shottie appeared top right corner for me on my SE at the weekend! So, I do not know if they can be of different material but mine did it too.

I'm not an ML user, but when I read that your old machine ID'd all cartridge ends the same, I was surprised. On Fisher F series machines the brass ones range from a reading similar to a cupronickel sixpence, up to a reading as conductive as a decimal 1p coin. The 'sixpence' ones are particularly common.
The difference is largely down to the thickness of the brass. The 'sixpence' ones are very thin and are often broken up due to corrosion. The other extreme, the '1p' type are really sturdy. Then you've got the odd ones, like the full-length metal case waterproof types, broken bits of ones, pinfires, igniters only, etc. Pesky things.

Hi, I have the explorer see pro, see you have it on deep mode ? Check with the book, sorry not got to hand but think that setting is at the expense of the some of the target ID ?
Also a slow swing is a must on this model or you wil miss loads
Shot gun heads always come out in the Hammy Zone for me
PS only other thing for me is since fitting a SEF I can't tell the difference between a bronze coin and most shrapnel
