Ground balance on the golden mask 2

Hi all just got a gm2 as another back up detector 8-} and very much like it.
I would like to know from the other gm users out there do you have to set the ground balance everytime you use it as for the first time out I found a William 111 shilling aprox 8ins deep without setting the ground balance.
