Talacre North Wales,

High tides ( 32.2 feet ) and high winds. Took a walk down the beach this morning and had to lean into the wind to make any progress. The wind was ripping the sand off the beach and blowing into the Mostyn Channel. The high tides have sliced of a few feet from the bottom of the dunes and spread it lower down the beach. Lots of small pools have formed for some considerable distance along the area below the high tide line.

A 31.5 foot tide due tomorrow at 12.52; I may go into Rhyl and work the beach there during the early afternoon whilst the wife and her cousine go shopping. Hope to find more coins and less scrap and WW2 munitions.

Started detecting on Rhyl beach at about 14.00 hrs and worked through till about 16.00. Turned up eleven coins that look to be one and two pence pieces but will have to clean them up and remove the crud. Also found the obligatory bottle cap and beer can, along with some cast iron bits. I was surprised by the scrap that turned up, but not as much scrap as at Talacre. Sadly didn't find any predecimal stuff, but then given more time I may well have done.

Hi all :D

Truthfully im not really enjoying the beaches as much as I used to but for a few reasons.
Firstly they have been doing a lot of work on our sea defences and it's changed the whole way the beach moves,so usual spots have gone completely.

Secondly due to work etc ive not managed to get out to the beach as much as I have in the past.

Thirdly I think I like being in a field etc rather than being on sand, just for the age of finds etc.

Please don't get me wrong as when I started detecting me and my mate dolph used to hammer our local beach, and where rewarded in ££s and cheap tat,and did 20+ hours a week then go on land digs on a sunday, But I think i do prefer the tranquility of a grass or stubble field more.
I have been out for 2 sessions back on the beach on friday/saturday for around 7 hours in total, finding george and viccy coins as well as modern coinage, the odd nice bits always come up,like a girls brass ring but still no more gold lol.
With it being dark nights now and with working long hours I think i'm going to have a lttle time with the old head torch on and see what nature brings me on the beach, maybe i'll find I enjoy it as much as I did before :D
