Where to look?

Post by Fire3 »

Hi all

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question, fairly new to this metal detecting malarky.

Where about's on a beach is the best place to start looking? Low tide or high tide mark?? Does this differ from a sandy beach to a shingle beach?

Thanks in advance

If its a swimming beach then I would look at all the beach ...if its a sunbathing beach or a flood tide beach I would look nearer the high tide mark :)
If I was to live to over 300 years old , would I end up in a museum ?

I have found so far that stuff ends up all over the place. Patches that get washed out often hold a few goodies ;)

almost anything that gets lost on a beach gets washed about by the huge power of the tides, you should look for places where the sand has been washed out by the tide after a storm, and avoid places where sand has been deposited

you get to know a beach if u go there regularly the one near me can go up and down by a couple of feet in places after a good storm and there have even been hammered coins found there after storms
