Hi all,
Just been tinkering around in my bottle dump at the bottom of the garden, I have taken a couple of pictures of the nice bottles I found today and one of the dump it self.
It would be great if one of you Bottle diggers could advise me , should I dig deeper?
Comment always welcome.
Kind regards
Leigh B-)

It looks like around 1930's,but try digging a pit or trench straight down and see if you start getting anything earlier... ie more green glass rather than clear screwtop types.
Even if it doesn't get that much earlier the deeper you go it is still possible to find quite nice items in 'late' dumps..I've found good enamel signs ginger beers and even pictorial potlids in dumps of that date.

Recon you are spot on there for that part of it, the brown beer bottle is 1931.
There are at least two other area's at the bottom of the garden which I think are earlier, I started on this area as it was the most obvious.
I will big a deeper hole and see what turns up here and move on if it is all the same age stuff.
Kind regards

Leigh - good luck with that (wish I had a dump at the bottom of my garden) - slippery is right about it being 1930s, always check the old vulcanite beer bottle stoppers as they're often dated.
It may get earlier with depth, but it depends how the dump was tipped - if it was a cottage dump it may just have been scattered, and you'll find a mixture of ages. Or it could be older at one end that the other - no two dumps are the same.
Safest way is to start at one end and dig through it methodically, backfilling as you go. That way, you'll not miss anything. And once you hit bottom, dig a bit deeper, just to make sure it's not a capping over an earlier layer. Look forward to more pics
