So for nearly 2 weeks ive been using my AT PRO and although the first time out was a little daunting, using it in pro mode, ive now got it set up to how i like it and all i can say is wow its awsome .
Ive covered a whole pasture field from which i found many things with the ACE 250, and found even more from bullets and buckles to crosses and coins to a depth of 12" and 1 signal i gave up on because it just seemed to go down forever (ive marked it and will return for it).Ive yet to go on ploughed land as the fields are still full of crops and until harvest out of bounds, but i have managed to get round the edges and gone through the spoils from where the irrigation ditches have bet deepened (Not sure why because we are in drought ) and had some coins and tiny bits of trash.
I have bought the adaptor for the headphones because the ones supplied were a little uncomfortable and bulky, but now i have my predators on its great.
At the minute the only fault i can give it is the lack of bigger search coils, but im sure after the honeymoon period and Garrett giving up the rights to the connectors there will be more available.
So for the time been im loving the AT Pro.

Hi Paul,
Seems a good buy . Ive had the 150,250 and now the Euro but could be looking at upgrading to the Pro. Is it still 'plug and play' technology? look forward to a field test on say stubble or ploughed. Cheers

It is plug and play in the basic mode although i went straight for the pro mode and after a little trial and error on settings found it to be really good even though im not really too technically minded, really good depth on pasture ive found also great on the beach, not really too sure why people say they arnt good machineswhen everybody opts for the pro pointer masde by the same people

Been out twice and YES!!! its much deeper and picks up every little piece of metal. Finding loads - almost every 5-10 metres theres something. Small buttons, decorative shields etc and some very deep.
Taking some time to learn what its telling me in PRO mode but went pretty much straight to PRO mode having been used to the ACE. Still learning, I suspect it will be much longer to get them most than the ACE.
One thing I have found is that after an long session of concentrating (my fields are very "busy") I can switch to STD mode for a bit and find it easier/more relaxing. Also, when I'm about done for the day and in just "walking back to the car but not wanting to miss something" type searching I use STD mode as I am finding you can cover more ground quickly...

Hi guys is the STD mode the same as the 250 or will it give more depth, nice to hear favourable reviews , I have the 250 and love it but after 2 months being a newbie to the hobby I already feel Im ready for more bells and whistles so to speak, how is the iron snesitivity ,as we knwo on the 250 it takes a while to settle down even on all metal is the atpro a little faster ? would love to hear more experience good and bad from any members
I too would love to hear review for this machine on stuble and ploughed land especially when seeded.
Use the Ace 250 on this land and although I have had some really big sucess over recent weeks I know I am missing loads and loads of stuff.
I have discovered that Very Slow and Low is the way to go with this machine especially when Iron is nearby.
Like the garrett machines had the 150 and now the 250 ready to go to a more powerfull machine but not something thats going to be too confussing this ticks the boxes if it performs on the ploughed land if not the I think It might be a T2 as there arent many that fault this machine.
Well firstly to answer the above questions - I am by any stretch an expert - I've only used the ACE 250 and AT PRO.
As for depth - in PRO mode it seems the AT PRO is deeper and picks up smaller stuff - but I've once or twice tried to see if it still picks up in STD mode and seems to but not always. Without a scientific test cant really say depth but STD mode I would expect a bit more than ACE but once set up lots more in PRO. Also the AT has proper ground balance rather than ACE pre-set so that must count for more depth.
I've only had chance on pasture so far but may well get a go at ploughed in a few weeks so will let you know.
As for speed - in PRO mode and discrimination off - it seems very fast and I've picked up non ferrous right next to ferrous like some of the vids on you tube show.
Iron audio is useful to switch in/out the iron signal - one thing is that I have to learn what is iron in the target (dont dig) vs iron near the target (dig) - I think I've got it but more practice.
Got to say for those with an ACE the PRO is very familiar and easy to get into but more challenge (interesting!) in PRO mode.
Note that not had a go at any other detectors in this price range or above - so while I am very happy with what I've got I don't pretend to be able to compare with other similar priced units.
Its easy to use out of the box but has more things to adjust/optimise to suit so again a good step up.

Many thanks for the post and reply , please keep us updated with the ATPRO as I am very much leaning towards one for that price range , as a matter of interest where did u buy yours us or uk, cheers mikk
for the money it is a great machine and would certainly go straight into pro mode, yes there is a little learning curve as there would be moving up to any other machine, it is great on ploughed fields and also the beach. i do have a minelab safari also and it is very compareable on depth and i would say slightly better on recovery, so in all for the price its a great machine, my only real bug bear is the lack of coils but im sure that will change in the future.

Ive been a bit of garrett lover for a while so this is all good news to me as I'm seriously thinking of the upgrade from Euro. I was going to just shove a bigger coil on the Euro but didnt think theres any point. Generally I have read that the std 8.5x11.5 DD coil on the AT Pro is all you need and with the machine weighing in at 1.6kg its not arm breaking.

to be fair im seriously thinking of getting the small coil also as one of my small paddocks has tons and tons of trash on (i know because ive dug most of it) just to see if it makes it any easier to get between whats left as i have found some great things, and im sure ive missed alot thats close to undesired stuff.
I bought mine from crawfords but thats only because hes in the same town as me and i like to keep things local if possible

Hi Paul,
Ive got the smaller 5" by 8" coil for the AT Pro and I think its great, great for trash sites and I didnt seem to lose any depth either and the pin pointing is perfect and no false signals.
Neil.
ive looked at those but i think im selling mine, im looking at e-trac now. I Still think they are a well under estimated machine capeable of much more than people give them credit for.
