RALLYMAKER wrote:Well many thanks for that , I like to here just a very slight background hum ,which means then I can adjust the sensitivity according to the audio.. does that make sense ....
RM, I know what you mean. When I used the GMP I liked to have just enough background chatter to say "No worries, I am still switched on and ready to change tones for that hammy later on"
I used to be able to balance out all the controls, sens and iron volume etc so that the coil was well adjusted to the soil. On the Deus I like to use tracking as it is supposed to remain balanced to the changing soil conditions and you need to keep an eye on the two numbers on the top right so that they more or less match up as the tracking can get waylaid by a lot of iron I am informed.

Tracking is great over similar ground. The ground balance can go very low, I had 73/74 on Monday. The machine always tries to keep the machine one pip away from the threshold figure.

On a "busy" site the ground conditions will vary very quickly so a figure of 90 is suggested for stability.

Threshold is good to know your detector and headphones are working, would hate to be swinging for ages and find out something was faulty etc ::g
