Beach permits:confused

Post by gez44 »

First post on this great forum.

Could someone tell me what permits are needed to detect on beaches, I have the Crown estates one but looking at there maps it only covers certain areas. I regularly see people on Bournemouth, Brighton, Blackpool etc.

Heading down to Hayling this weekend, noticed it is not on the Crown Estates map but Southsea is.

Cheers.

Gez.

If people are doing other beaches that aren't marked on the crown estate and foreshore map then theyre either doing it illegally or they have permission from a local council/private beach owner. Try writing an email to the council of the area you are going to and asking which ones you're allowed to detect on, and if they will give permission. Most councils seem to reply fairly promptly.

If it's not purple it's not Crown Estate. If it is purple the CE may still have leased it out to E.G local council, MOD or private owners so that should be checked as well for permission.

Either check with the CE via email for the specifics or hope someone from Bournmouth area replies to your post.

Some of the cliff areas to the east of Bournmouth pier seem to be SSSI's but not the beach itself.
