The two items turned up under my CS4PI whilst working the area close to where the old lifboat station used to be. I had to dig down about 18 inches whilst fighting against wet sand constantly falling back into the hole. Both items were totally encased in rust and didn't look anthing atall like they are now.

They look nice not sure what they are is that the Prince of Wales feathers on the left or is it the Fleur de lysse ? [ not sure of spelling] it was worth the effort digging .Have you tried the Euro Ace yet or still having problems with the replacement.

Roughneck shovel Army folding shovel Dobbies s/s spade F I D member I thought that the two items came from a decrative wrought iron fence. The wife thought an iron bedstead decoration but they feel to heavy for that. I would guess that the brass decoration is the Prince of Wales feathers but can not be certain.
As for the Euro Ace; I am still waiting to give it some exercise but am presently baby sitting our 23 month old grandson for a week and with the wife being disabled; I am tied closely to them both. Pluss the weather aint been that good for detecting. I'm looking forward to putting in a full day with the Euro Ace next week and will keep you posted of any finds. Chris Hi Chris

I then took a small chipping hammet to them and gently tapped at the rust which then fell away in lumps. Later, a bit of wire brushing brought them up very nicely. OK, I know that is probably not the best way to go about the job but it worked for me. I think that becase they are wrought iron and not steel; the rust dammage was not to great. Chris Hi Zigzag, you are bang on there about the size of the beach here. Did you know that the beach was mined during WWII? A guy from St Hellens even found a live handgrenade in the dunes here. What size were those shell casings that you found? Chris Who is onlineUsers browsing this forum: No registered users and 34 guests |
