Hammereds

Post by hotmill »

Hello there,

I've had the AT Pro for about 6 months now and am really pleased with it. The machine has good depth and can pick up very small items. I operate the machine in pro mode custom with 35 disc and iron audio on. I have found some really good stuff but no hammereds at all. I am getting to grips with the different tones when running in pro mode but am concerned that I am missing hammereds.
I dig the high tones that are repeatable but have been ignoring the intermittent, very faint, or signals that dont show any depth reading. Should I dig all of these? I do a lot of detecting every week in various locations where hammereds have been found by other people with no luck. I appreciate it just may be a case that I haven't walked over any hammereds but I'm not so sure.

Thanks

I dug very faint signal yesterday, target was of the hole on the surface somewhere, got propointer and tried to find it. After 5 min decided to find it using hand over coil method. And it worked. Pinpointer used to give signal, but I used to lose it again and again.... my first hammered farthing. So Try to dig all faint signals if you want to find farthing.

I think I'm just lazy really, so disheartening to be constantly digging 10" deep holes only to find a mastitis tube or a ring pull at the bottom. I'll have to discipline myself to do it s;..

Have you buried a hammered at various depths and see what the signal is, it will tell you if the machine is seeing a hammy and at what depth you lose it.
As was pointed out on here recently it's best to put it in a sealed bag with string attached for relocating if you can't detect it. If you havent got a hammy either borrow one or get a poor quality one for a cheap price.
I will be surprised if it's not seeing them though.

I've read that the AT Pro gives a very scratchy signal on hammereds, is that true. The silver coins I have found so far have given a real clear tone so I would have thought hammereds would be the same.
If it is scratchy is it like a 'foil' type tone?

Hammered are not as common as the the forums suggest.

They are very difficult to sniff out.

And of course, you must have the history on and around your land for the hammered to have fallen to ground in the first place.

Check the PAS site for the geographical areas that most hammered come up. There are large gaps in the UK where you will not find any.

That's why many of us travel at the weekends, to search these areas, where hammered are likely to be.

Very true, I guess they have to be there in the first place.
