US 5$ coin 1895

Post by Jimnick »

Hi all.

Found this one on the wet beach this morning.

Alas, mounted as a charm, and a bit damaged by the jeweler, I presume...

The chain was still attached and is not common here : it's a 22K one !

Just once again : the beach and it's surprises !

They are still sold like yours on amazon...

But the actual coin itself can command between $5000 and $80000 according to one site i looked at....

It just goes to show that beaches can come up with some really surprising finds, and that's a winner any day. Well done m8. B-)
Will I? Won't I? What kind of silly question is that?

Hi.

Thanks for looking, and thanks for the links.

That thing was deep, I had to fight with the wet sands to get it. At first, I thought it was a 0,50 euro coin, and then....

As for the value, I think it's only the weight of gold for two reasons :

-There is no mint mark, so it is more common than one with the "S" mark (San Francisco).

-It has been badly worn by a crazy lab amateur jeweler who first made an attempt to drill a hole at the Eagle side, then refilled it, before soldering the external part.

It will be one of my best finds, a few years ago, I was lucky to find a french 20 francs coin from 1914.
