Beach Detectors

Post by blizzard »

Hi All, and a Happy Xmas.

I am considering purchasing a machine for the beach, i have the Minelab 705 for land and am now looking for a dedicated beach machine, but never having owned one i have not got any idea whats good or whats not so good. I have looked at the Minelab Excaliber II but at around £1200 wonder if its a worhtwhile investment? Would any of you be so kind to advise me as im left scratching my head on this one.

Cheers
Blizzard ::g

I have also decided to go for a dedicated beach detector that handles the wet sand, I have just ordered the C Scope CS4PI it comes in at a really reasonable price of £250, but I've also got the coil cover, headphones and control box cover at a very reasonable £280 odd.

It's a deep seeking machine but it has no discrimination so you have to dig every target, that said you can't go wrong for that price.

Just can't wait for it to be delivered now

Makro Pro Pointer.
Stainless Steel Digging Tool.
Stainless Steel Sand Scoop.

the Excal II is designed for going into the water, i was going to get one but even in the summer the sea here is still bloody boltic so a dry suit would also be needed, so i knocked the idea on the head.
id opt for something with discrim capabilities as there is a lot of iron and junk around the coasts.
hope you get sorted with a machine that fits your needs ::g

The 1200 quid gives you peace of mind and allows you to reach places
out of reach to most.
Get a pair of waders and rivers and sea become good hunting grounds.
Plus the re-sale price is very good on secondhand Excalibur,s ::g

For the dry or wet sand any multi freq minelab will do the job, I recently bought an elite which is fantastic, the gt is also as good as to the etrac and the safari if you want numbers popping up on screen and lots of programs to play with.. For normal deep beach work I don't think you will beat The GT or Elite unless your wading into deeper water, both very deep seeking, wet or dry sand and great on land too..

I would have said it all depends on what type of beach detecing you do and also how much you do,if you are looking for a dedicated detector to be used every so often then a C-Scope 4PI could well tick the box but of course the down side is you have to did everything or if you want to go detecting in the surf its self then maybe the Excaliber is the way to go.

A few things need to be looked at like how often do you detect on a beach,budget,what type of beach detecting then once you have thought about these type of things you can narrow down your choice.
Equinox 6'',11'' and 15'' coils.
Deus 2 9'' coil.
Minelab GPX 14'' and 18'' Coiltek coils.
Fisher TW-5 twin box.
Nexus MP 13'' coil.
Nexus SE dual 9'' coil.
Whites TDI Pro 20'' coil.

@bainsey i dont dis-agree with you as most people would take that option but he has also mention the 'Excaliber' so does that mean that he plans on detecting in the surf which if it does that means in theory that not just any old PI would do the job this is why i mentioned about clarifying what type of beach detecting he was aiming to do.A non watertight PI will do wet and dry sand but working the surf and i am only assuming he wants to do this due to looking at the Waterproof Excaliber of course i could be reading it wrong ::g

Just my ten pence worth - my cs4pi Has always found the most stuff when out with my detectorist friends. That's minelab, safari and more.

Of course, it's muchly a luck game, but I'm convinced the PI will find it if I walk over it.

Huge depth, too!

Absolutely, I would never take my machines more than ankle deep, they are not waterproof and all it takes is one slip or a big wave but on the sand and in pools cant beat a gt or elite.

Did spot this today which i though would be worth a look at for general beach use... Crossbow Classic PI http://www.metaldetectingforum.co.uk/vi ... 62&t=40679" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
