Engraved cup

Post by wolfie »

I've tried to scale down the pic to fit as an attachment but couldn't figure out how so here's a link I hope works :)

It was found at about 7" down in my garden

This is a link to a few other things found. The nail is 8.5" long and the ordnance case base reads K2 1942 20mm

Thanks felix. I forgot to mention that the nail and casing were found on the beach at Bacton, Norfolk after a storm had stripped a fair bit of sand

I really don't know for certain Mick. I was hoping that someone on here had an idea of age. It appears to be bronze and looks like it could have been made on a lathe because there seems to be turning marks on the stem.

I know that it's a nice object and that what I'm going to say won't help, but my other half says that she thinks it's Harry Potter's goblet of fire. =)) =)) =)) Seriously though, I'm intrigued by it's fairly small size, yet it has what appears to be modern style engraving on it. I somehow doubt that it has been in your garden very long. Those are my current thoughts on this object. :)
Will I? Won't I? What kind of silly question is that?

Anyone know Harry Potters number? I think I've found something of his =)) I have to admit that I was jumping around a bit when I first dug it out. Then I cleaned it and realised it wasn't some unique bronze age cup :( As you say though, it's a nice find and to find this when I was just trying out my new detector just confirms what a great hobby this is, each time you switch on and sweep, you never know what might come up :) Thanks for the info OJ. I'll look into the Indian probability and see if I can find out more.
