Not what I was expecting

Post by Dirtypaws »

Beach seems to have had a good churn up as of the 27 coins I had yesterday only 11 were decimal (£3.04). Most unexpected was the cartwheel penny in the pic (believe it or not that's the Britannia side shown) - always wanted to find one but shame most of the detail has gone and it seems to want to rust now its out of the water. Others included a Viccy halfpenny, some Ed V11's and later pre decimal. The earring was quite nice - until I broke it rl; .

not a bad haul there .shame about the old cartwheel penny but on a whole they tend not to be in to good a condition .

Well done ::g ...I had one (and a Lizzy shilling!) from the rocks right down the far end but it was in worse condition than yours. :)

Have you found much down there in the past? I gave it a bit of a go on Tuesday but didn't find anything of any interest. Got bored and headed back to the other end where the coins were popping up.

I've spent quite a bit of time down there as the sand between the rocks and water at low tide isn't too deep and you can get down to the clay/shale layer. There isn't that much there but what there is is nearly all old...finds have dried up a bit though so I may have hoovered up most of them.
My one and only 'treasure' item..silver gilt turreted brooch came from there, still going through the system at the moment

Oh... I had another 'Hedgehog' the other day from out amongst the boats...you found any more?

Thanks for the info, the brooch sounds great. May give that area a fair try sometime soon - I lost patience a bit as I had had some good stuff from the other end of the beach but only found junk and Nato blanks down there, so went back to the boats. Yep, two more 'hedgehogs' from the same area as yourself. ::g
