Not all that glitters is Gold!

Post by east coast stu »

Just sorting some of the finds from Filey etc this last 6 weeks, This is about 80% of the fake /junk bling, few bits of silver that are unhallmarked that need testing. % wise Bridlington is a lot worse on a Silver/Gold to junk ratio, couple fake £1 coins turned up as well ;;z . Image

certain beachs you know as soon as you see them, Bridlington always throws up Mood rings for some reason. But just this last year Stainless steel rings are turning up, They have been a problem in the USA for a few years now

I'd be interested to see a pic of the fake £1 coins if that's possible?

They look like they have been cast in Lead? then plated. if they were new the give away is the edges, very flat without the 100s of grooves. ImageImageImage

My wife works for a well known high street Jeweler. so i tend to have a look what there selling if i meet her from work, They are now selling palladium rings . which could be interesting, But also a lot of Titanium and Stainless steel, A heavy ( there discription) 9ct 7mm wedding ring was £449 today, so its easy to see why the cheaper versions are selling

I expect you can cope with the minor disappointment, after all a ring is a ring, just bad luck they were lost by some 'cheapskate'!! PS. It's good to find that one of your previous machines was a Compass 77B - one of the best in it's day. Cheers. sweepstick47.

Thanks for showing the coins, never seen anything like them - yet! ::g

I found a titanium and silver Tiffany ring recently. Awful looking thing in my opinion, but when I looked it up and saw the list price in the UK was £325 I started to like it quite a bit more. :D

Hi Stu those cast lead alloy counterfeit pound coins were prolific in the mid 90's but people soon learnt to recognise them because they were soft and the coating soon wore off or discoloured, so they have been there a few years. The modern counterfeits are made of the correct material and are very difficult to spot.
