Beach Gives Up Some More Coinage.

Post by Expat Aussie »

I`m just back from another detecting session on the beach that I detected on last Sunday, little change since then, only this time I was the only person there to start with owing no doubt to the moderate North wind that had a chilly edge to it.Started by the two mobile shops and found a £1 coin then headed off to where I ended up last time.Detecting over the same spot that I concentrated on previously produced a 1963 French 10 centimes rather the worse for wear. There were 2 5ps and 2 2p`s that were obviously recent losses as they were untarnished. The rest have been in the sea for some time and 2 of the 2p`s were so corroded and battered that I think their circulating days are over and they are not that old - 2002 and 2004.Picture shows the results of the session, again nothing of note, the oldest was a 1908 1d.The threepence was 1948,a scarce date that I hadn`t found before.

when i was out and about ... some guy approached me ... bragging of his night hawking exploits ... but did mention a 1947 3d ... of something ending in 7 .... maybe 1937 is worth a small fortune....:) :) :)

I suspect he was thinking of 1937 with the portrait of Edward VIII which is extremely rare.I vaguely remember someone in Norfolk discovering one in their change in the 1960`s.No 3d`s were issued here in 1947 however Fiji issued some (with their own design) in that year.As far as I know,Fiji was the only country apart from the U.K. that used the brass twelve sided 3d.
