Ace 150 vs 250 Depth.

Post by Grub »

Hi folks,

I apologise if the question has been asked before, I did use the search function first but didn't find the answer.

I know the Ace 250 has more bells and whistles than the 150, but I was wondering if the 150 and 250 (both with the standard coils) have the same depth?

The reason I ask is; I was out with the old man yesterday down the beach (dry sand), I was hitting targets with my Prizm that he couldn't pick up with his 150, even in All Metal mode and full sensitivity.
I was looking to ditch the Prizm and move to an Ace 250 but if it has the same depth as the 150 I don't think I will.

The 1-4 Prizm range of detectors all use the same technology and have the same depth, (Whites just added more options to the latter models).
Is the Ace 150 and 250 the same?

Many Thanks! :)

i cant answer your question but if you are up grading then you really need to be thinking about a mid range machine now, there is no sense in changing to a machine that is not really that much different than what you are currently using imo ::g

Thanks for the reply mate!

Yes that's what I'm thinking too. There's no point spending a couple of hundred on a machine that's the same or not much better than the one I've got.
I'll have to get mooching on Ebay and browse all the reviews.

Any suggestions on a good mid-range machine would be helpful.

I've been looking at the Laser Rapier and Tesoro Compadre lately, them seem to be roughly in the same price range as the Ace 250... Any thoughts?

Hi Grub,

I'm new to the hobby, five weeks or so.
Bought a Garrett 150 and have found it a very good starter machine for £140.00 including headphones, coil cover, batteries and standard two year warranty. From Regton Ltd online. Fast free delivery.

Now; the 150 has the same size 9.5x12" search coil as the 250.
As for depth, it has exactly the same 6.5kHz single frequency as the 250. So I guess the same depth. Only difference, as you rightly said, the 250 just has more bells and whistles!

Had a few nice finds on the few outings I've had so far with the 150, with a bit of luck I might get the chance to do some proper fields in the next few days!

Here's the legendary 'Norfolk Wolf' testing them both!

Hope this helps,
all the best,

Not used a Garrett 150, but I'm sure both the 150 and 250 need to be used with slow steady sweeps to give it time to find those targets, buzzing over them fast neither will see them. [:)

Thanks for your thoughts mate. I can't see any point changing to the 250 then if the depth is the same as the 150. My Prizm pretty much has the same bells and whistles as the 250 so there won't be an improvement there either.

I think I'll stick with my Prizm for a while until I can find a good deep-seeking machine for roughly £250.

Thanks for the input guys. :)
