Deus buying advice needed please

Post by splatter »

Guys
I currently have an Ace 250 with a NEL tornado coil which is good, but have decided to splash out on a Deus but don't know which package to buy. I am considering the full package rather than the lite options.

Firstly, is it worth getting the control box and headphones, or just the control box or headphones?

secondly, if I get the head phones, are the WS5 worth getting rather than the WS4?

Lastly, I have been told the larger 11x13 coil has its limitations i.e. heavier, difficult over stubble/ rough ground, but has better ground coverage and detects slightly deeper.

Is it worth just sticking with the stock 9" coil?

The deals from Regton are only £50 different between the WS4 and the WS5, with the control box, so is this cost effective?

cheers

I got the Deus lite but went back for the control box I have the back phones which are great.
If I was buying it again I'd get the full package for one you can't update the Deus without the control box hope this helps ::g

Get the ws5's with it n the big coil because the 9" coils go for alot less on flea bay!! ::g

Hello splatter.

It may be worth trying Crawfords one of the forum sponsors as I know they offer a price match deal. ::g ::g

I would go for the full pack.. But later maybe add chefphone 6 to, as the headphone from standard click over on CFP 6.. then you have a full cup for winter.. As for the large coil.. Never had one myself, and it wil add extra weight to the set up.

Go for the 9 inch coil, the new 11 inch coil is due out this autumn and is supposedly a similar weight to the 9 inch so if you feel you need a larger coil after a few months go for the 11 inch which wont have the balance issue of the current 13 inch coil.

I have the backphones myself and didnt fancy the ws5's as I dont like sweaty ears, I also like to be able to hear whats going on around me when I detect. If I get cold ears in winter I wear a hat over them, job done. If I did want full ear phones I'd buy a set of the chef phones for 50 quid and fit my backphone control unit onto the adaptor fitted to the Chef phones as standard.

I'd also go for the control unit if you can stretch to that, makes things easier ::g

I thought the 11 x 13 coil was the 11" coil :-/ , so I might wait until Sept/ Oct to get the 11 coil instead of the 9" stock coil. I am not sure I can wait until then!
I am also looking at getting the WS4 with a view to getting £50 chefs if I want a full set of phones (as per Danzig' good advice).

Hi Simon I am in the same dilemma , But I was thinking of leaving the deus head phones off the config altogether , I would like to hear what advantage it is to have both the remote and headphones (apart from the wireless advantage).

If you can't wait for the 11 inch coil as it is XP we are talking about and it may be late, go for the 9 inch coil. I went from the 11 inch coil on an AT Pro to the 9 inch Deus and it's not stopped me getting some cracking finds with it.

The only advantage, I can see is, with getting the wireless headphones aswell is the ability to use the MD without having the controller connected and the luxury of wireless over wired.

Danzigman has suggested buying the Chef phones CP6 which are very good @ £49.95 + £2.50 P&P from Detecnicks.

The costs as per Regton:

9" coil with control box only £1000

9" coil with control box and WS4 £1230

9"coil with control box and WS5 £1269

Depending on your budge,t you could save between £180 and £220, by getting the basic system + CP6 phones.
Also Regton' give 0% finance, and so this is the way Iam going to go.

hope this helps

cheers
