Day Trip To Jaywick.Last Sunday I had a phone call from my db asking if I was interested in a detecting session at Jaywick - I thought it wouldn`t be that interesting as I had been over the beach there when the sand had been entirely stripped off in the early 1980`s however I`m always enthusiastic for a spot of detecting and not wishing to dampen his spirit said o.k. we`ll give it a go.Tide was in at 9 a.m. so I suggested we get there at around 10,arrived to find that the defenses (as expected) had been considerably improved and that a large amount of sand from the gunfleet sand bank had been brought in to replenish the beach. On arrival one of the locals asked us how we had got on and when I told him we had just arrived he said there have been quite a few detectorists there recently. If I`ve heard that said once I must have heard it a hundred times, and told him that it didn`t bother me as I`m sure I`ll find something

Darkest Essex........ just below Clacton..........Jaywick is at best "interesting". Opinions expressed on MY posts are mine and NOT those of any democratic organisation I volunteer for.
![]() I was there just before Christmas overnight as part of a swift water rescue team as the tidal surge was expected to breach the defences.
Chatted to some local Police who said.."don't leave anything unlocked or unattended". Sums up the area to be honest !! Rift Xp Deus 9" + 11"
Minefield CTX 3030..Boom Baby. When I die dont let my Wife sell my detector for what she thinks I paid for it !
Interesting..............yep thats one word for it:)
Used to fish at Jaywick with me dad when i was a teenager, caught a boulder once ,the hook snagged a barnacle and i dragged a 15 pound dead weight all the way in ,my dad and his mate were in the surf trying to see what i had caught ..all of a sudden a massive rock comes up the beach.. b;>
They still laugh about it now... ![]() ![]() ![]() Shame i hear such bad stories about Jaywick now ,ive got fond memories..rough as hell in winter with waves pounding the beach so hard the car used to move behind the sea wall..spray used to hit the chalets.. Looks like the beach is okay for detecting tho,,nice haul.. ![]() ![]() ![]()
Looks like you had a very good day there... but personally i try to leave the pennies and stick to the pounds!! on the basis that they buy more snap!!
