Off to the Beach with C Scope & Whites DFX

Post by Oldfart »

Off to the beach for a week taking with me my C Scope 4mxi and a borrowed Whites DFX . Ive already used the C Scope 4mxi on the Beach it was fine on the Dry Sand but not good on the Wet Sand. I am going to try out the Whites DFX on the Wet and Dry Sand. (Iam new to the Metal Detecting world so am on a massive learning curve)I am considering purchasing a C Scope CS4Pi solely for beach use but if the Whites DFX blows me away I might consider a second-hand DFX in stead.Any thoughts appreciated. think you might have miss read my thread, ive not yet purchased the SC4pi so don't know about settings its the sc4mxi I already have and that's good on dry sand but not the wet sand, my consideration is to purchase a sc4pi solely for the wet sand my understanding is that there is no discrimination on the sc4pi so lots of digging which wont be a problem to me has I've just given up 440sq meters of allotment which I used to dig and turn over every year. sw;

You do need the correct program tho, and I thought I had it in my pc and was going to post it for you, but can't find it, sorry.

You will find that a Cscope CS4PI works well on both wet and dry sand but sadly has no discrimination. The little blighter can't tell the difference between an iron nut and a gold ring! :-L

If you use the CS4PI on a beach that has loads of scrap concealed beneath the sand, you will finish up digging for England and soon become very frustrated. The machine works well on wet sand and punches deep, finding the smallest of targets. ::g

I suppose the more you dig the more you find, there's got to be some good stuff among it.

Just copying it straight off the md so here goes...
Target vol = personal choice > Audio threshold = 1 > Tone (audio freq) = 238 > Audio disc = on > Silent search = off > Mixed mode = off > A.C. sens = 65 > D.C. sens = 55 > Viewing angle = 25 > Ratchet pinpointing = on > Sat speed = 9 > Tone I.D = off > V.C.O = on > Modulation = off > Auto track = on > Track view = off > Autotrack speed = 14 > Autotrack offset = +0 > trac inhibit = on > Coarse G.E.B = 135 > Fine G.E.B = 125 (the last two should be already set at this) > Disc edit = Accept, +71 > Block edit = Accept, +71 > Learn accept = off > Learn reject = off > Recovery speed = 20 > Bottle cap reject = 1 > Hot rock reject = 20 > Sweep speed = 10 > Ground filter = 4 > Visual disc= on > Icons = personal (I have them off) > V.D.I sens = 85 > D.C phase = off > Graph averaging = on > Graph accumulate = on > Fade rate = 8 > Pre-amp gain = 3 > 2 freq (best data) = on > 2 freq (correlate) = off > V.D.I Normalised = on > 1 Freq (3 khz) = off > 1freq (15 khz) = off ...........
B****y hell, I forgot how long the programs are for the dfx =)) =)) =))
It seems complicated, but once you get in to it it's not that bad, and some of the settings you might find are already set, been a long time since I messed with the settings on this machine :D
Anyway, hope this helps and have a good holiday ::g
Dave
P.S. forgot to say that this program works well on both wet and dry, and you might find it hard to do the gb on the wet (just do it on the dry).

My XLT is poor on wet salt sand because it is single frequency (6 kHz), whereas the DFX should cope with those conditions being dual frequency (3 & 15kHz). The DFX always uses both frequencies simultaneously regardless of your settings, you are simply choosing which results you want presented to you. Cleverer folk than me can explain why two or more frequencies are better on wet salt sand.

Hi Dave thanks for the settings I have tried them out found a few coins, tent pegs,ring pulls ect along the wet sand has the tide was going out,although nothing special in finds the DFX worked well no false signals and my coin finds were down to approx. 6" so all in all happy.The local lads say the beach is very clean at the moment it also has had fresh sand Dredge Pumped from the sea bed to replace the washed away beach in Dec 2013. I think you will find that you can use 3,15 or both frequencies together depending how you set it up ::g

Hi Dave thanks again for the settings ect, on the settings you gave both 3Khz & 15Khz are in the Off position,are you saying if I set them both to ON this may give me better results or will I need to alter other settings.
I can but try the On settings and see what happens,(just a reminder I am new to metal dectors so on a massive learning curve) :-/Just reading Count de washers post sounds like both frequencies are used by default unless one or the other is selected so just as well leave them both in the OFF mode ]l
