A Successful Expedition To The Beach.

Post by Expat Aussie »

Was hoping for some beach detecting today but woke up to steady rain :-L Fortunately after breakfast it had started to clear - there were periods of short sharp showers :) I was lucky to live close to the sea so set off arriving in Clacton to find the beach virtually deserted and no sign of any other detectorists.Spent three hours on the west beach finding £7.87 in modern spendables.By that stage people were turning onto the beach so decided to head over to the far west end area known as Martello Beach where there were fewer people and I also noticed one detector at work some distance away. After 3/4 hour I had managed 4 coins value 19p to add to the total and then decided to call it a day.Quite satisfied with the results ::g Must admit though can`t wait to get back in the fields after harvest - in the meantime it`s beaches for me :)) :)) :))

I used the Minelab SE Professional with no discrim as there is not too much trash around at the moment and as my eyesight isn`t that smart I tend to go by the tone as to what to dig.I was quite lucky as Clacton usually gets done to death these days, however I did notice that the sand had moved quite considerably since my previous visit despite the fact there hasn`t been much in the way of strong winds here lately.

Good luck zxadi,I`d recommend you work along the west beach from the pier as I did. Most of the activity seems to be near the pier.Heading westwards from the pier you come to an eatery (Martello Inn) and beyond that is a large area of dry sand close to a Martello Tower.I tried that one on my visit but didn`t find much (4 coins in 3/4 hour). There are quite a number of bottle tops in the dry sand there which is a bit of a pain.Going east from the pier is Holland-On- Sea where the environment agency are going to improve the sea defences.I haven`t detected there for a long time, last time I took a look there work hadn`t started.Don`t know if you are familiar with the area but in case you`re not,you may find car parking a problem if you don`t get there early. It`s free along Marine Parade east and west of the pier but mostly there is a 3 hour limit. You can park for much longer near Martello Inn and close to the Martello tower(on the roadside). There are a few car parks down the west end (pay & display).High tide at Clacton on the 9th is 9.41 am and 22.08 pm.If you`re there at low tide,it could be worth checking under the middle of the pier(that is if no-one else gets there before you)HH. ::g
