Woke up last Sunday morning to see that it was sunny and calm,so thought it would be a good time to hit the beach.Drove over to Nigel`s to ask him if he was interested in a spot of beach detecting.Turned out he was but was not ready

so had a coffee and a chat, finally all loaded up and off to the beach.Arrived there at 10.00am which I reckoned would be on the late side as the day was getting hotter and people were flocking onto the beach.Looked packed on the Eastern side so suggested we make a start on the West side where the was still large areas of open beach.Stopped at 1.00 for a break and compared what we had found in nearly 3 hours. We both had slightly over £5 each which wasn`t bad going.I decided to have a look towards the East side (without detecting) to see how many people were there and note some good spots for later.

Finally when most people had left I detected my way eastwards while Nigel detected in the opposite direction. At the far western end I could see three other detectorists, one of which was using a long handled sand scoop.I knew they hadn`t been over the area I was on but never-the -less I only managed to find 31 coins there, highest value 50p.Arriving back where we started I could see Nigel and another detectorist again with a long handled sand scoop.Carried on to 9.00pm and called it a day having found around 100 coins to the value of £13.17.Nigel had found a similar number of coins to the value of £15.96.He also had the advantage of finding a £2 coin - a denomination that eluded me.Still made for a worthwhile day. Most coins were recent losses and finds included 7 French Eurocents and a dog disc with name and address of a local so I`ll be returning it to owner the next trip.
