First Beach Hunt with the CTX 3030

Post by Anubis »

Finally got to go to the beach to test out my CTX and it did not disappoint, I started at Kessingland in Suffolk but due to really heavy and compact stone I moved along the coast to Pakefield in Lowestoft working my way up toward the pier.

I ran the CTX in coin mode as the Beach mode seemed to have far more discrimination than I was comfortable with.

I left the salt water setting off as the tide was almost fully in and there was not a lot of wet sand to play with, I was not prepared to get my feet wet although a freak wave was not concerned about what i wanted and i ended up with soggy feet anyway.

When I did hit wet sand the CTX made the transition from dry to wet and back again without issue, its amazing how versatile the machine is.

What amazed me the most was how deep the CTX found stuff, i found myself hunting around with the pro pointer for about ten minutes trying to find what turned out to be a stud off some jeans at about 9" down.

A nice coin spill of about 10 coins scattered across about 2 square meters and at 12ish inches kept me busy for a while but the CTX in target trace mode was perfect giving me an idea what I was doing.

A ring topped things off nicely and set my heart racing but it was short lived as it had no hall marks and looks to be stainless steal, but its still my first ring with the CTX

Just in case you weren't aware, the small grey domed item in your main picture is the remains of a British No 36M grenade. More specifically, it is the bottom portion of the central striker column.

Here are a few of the 200 or so I have found over the years, and a picture of an intact column with the part you have circled.

Thanks mate, I had hoped to find more ww2 stuff from the kessingland range but I stupidly only came equipped with the sand scoop and forgot to pack my mini shovel. There is now so much stone on the beach I'm going to have to wait for a storm to clear it.

I'm still trying to beat my mates find there, he found an awesome grenade fragment a while ago

That is an awesome grenade fragment. Nice to see more 30cals than 303s for once as well from a UK range :) :) :) s;.. s;..

It's a nice spot to detect, free parking and so open you don't disturb anyone, apart from a few dog walkers there are not many people about.

Apparently the best place to check is by the sluice according to an elderly chap I spoke to he said just wait until winter and you won't need your fancy machine as you can pick the stuff up on the surface.
