That's the way it goes TF. A while back it was gold nearly every visit on one beach but recently I have struggled to find a few modern coins on most beaches I visit as they have been 'sanded in'

It can just take one tide to totally change a beach, It is just a matter of being on the right beach at the right time.

I went to my local beach in the north east about 6 or 7 months ago and came back with over 100+ coins. Now every time I go I find it hard to find anything except rubbish. There seems to be a lot of other guys doing the beach now as every time I go I chat to them...nice lot they are too!

Hi Fox, I`ve noticed the same last couple of weeks , finds even junk have dropped right off on the beach. Last 4 visits each of two hours; 1p, zilch !!, £2.44 and 11p, also what I`ve seen is most of those coins are old having been in the sand a while , hardly any fresh losses. Had 4 really good days start of august £11.16,£4.30, £12.59 and £9.51 total of 84 coins, all freshly lost. Following weekend storm put at least an extra foot of sand on beach, finds dropped off. There also seem to be a lot more guys out detecting. Got 3 days off this week due to reduced hours and pay at work so will see what I can find .Like autumn is 3 weeks early this year I would say the same for the end of the good detecting season at the beach, but I will keep on searching.
Cheers ::g

I am like you stargazer very little to show for the last couple of years. I don't do beaches only farmland and I have really struggled for decent finds BUT I always find the enthusiasm to go out again because despite my slim pickings I do really still enjoy the hunt and the anticipation that one day something will turn up. I have changed my outlook on it now, to me a successful session is one where I actually spend a couple of hours peace and quiet down the fields enjoying the scenery and wildlife and if I find anything then that is a bonus. :)

Hi , As everyone says there is no telling what a bit of weather can change :-SS I started serious detecting last year and was lucky enough to catch the east coast beaches at a good time. This year its been sand sand and more sand ;;z ,but if you keep at it every now and again a nice bit comes up and makes you smile. If you want the recent losses get there first and pick up the previous days coins etc or work the trash and pick out the good bits. I posted a nice little silver ring with stones recently some good bits are still lurking about. Keep at it ::g

I think I agree , with most of the comments on here, I went out a couple of weeks ago , ( I always go out early in the morning 5-30am onwards ) early bird catches the worm sort of thing , and found £13-50p ,10x£1.00 coins in one hole on the beach , +£2.coin and a bit of smash, but since then hardly any fresh finds at tall, but coins that have been in the sand for sometime I changed my machine from an ace250 - to the at-pro and this has really made a difference, still I live in hope of finding a hoard lool ::g ::g
