Deus newbie beginner advice please

Post by Ollie K »

Hi every one, so I've decided to bite the bullet and join the ranks in swinging the mighty, lighty Deus :) I'm going to order it tomorrow and have two days off next week to give my new permission a good going over. I went last Sunday with the Euroace and found my first 16th century jetton, however the field was rough ploughed and, tbh, hard work! Signals seemed very sketchy aside from the obvious issues with swinging the detector efficiently. However, it's now been harrowed and so I'm hoping it should be a lot better. I'm thinking I should use one of the factory programs until I get a real feel for things and I've read that they are really decent so my question is, which one would you recommend for a beginner, going over harrowed heavy soil and do I need to be aware of anything or tweak? I'm hoping the Deus can pick out the smaller, deeper finds like hammy"s,etc. Thanks in advance ::g Ollie [:)

Well you will not go far wrong with Deus Fast to start off. Put your ground balance on tracking to start with until you get used to the machine.
There is a lot to learn. take a look at James Burrils pinned post on the XP DEUS facebook page, I found it very interesting.
Stick at it you will not be disappointed. [:) [:)

Good advice above,... if you are in a quiet area, you could turn the sensitivity up a click or two,,.. but I would go with the above, and go low & slow, of course!!! ::g

Cheers chap, I've heard that a lot of people go hell for leather when on fast. Quick question fella- how many tones are standard on the GNP or FAST factory setting mate?

Fast (prog 3) is 3 tone and if GMP is prog 5 then that is also 3 tones ::g

If you haven't got the latest Searcher mag with the article on the Deus by Adam Staples (AdamandLisa) get it now as it will be very helpfull now and in the future.

I have been using basic 1, fast on 12khz and Gary's hot programmes but tried Adams HF program today and it picked out a 1/4 cut hammered and a full hammered on a field I have not been finding much on.
Highly recommended.

I'd be interested in seeing Adam's HF program if someone can add a link please X:)

I've been using Garry's cold programme and it gives really solid 'dig me' signals in most grounds. Definitely a programme I rely on. I find the GMP really difficult to interpret, same with basic 1, as loads of signals come through and they all sound the same (to me). I've had the most success with the cold programme. However I'm still a learner myself even though I've been out with it several times a week for almost a year...

Good luck and happy hunting with your new piece of kit. Ploughed fields are the best locations in my opinion if you can get the permissions.
