First Real Storm of the Winter?

Post by iDetect »

Hi guys,

Well the first real storm of the winter is starting to batter parts of the UK as I type.

Does this put you experienced beach detectorists on standby to head out when the storm passes?

What should a novice like me look for in the wake of high winds and heavy rain, that would indicate a good place to start swinging the detector?

You need to keep an eye on the sand, sometimes it will strip the sand down to the stone underneath in certain places, or take enough off to reach the hard underneath. This will allow you to get to finds that have been hidden for years. Maybe it will bring more sand in, you never know.
This is why you have to know your beach and recognise the movements of the sands.
Good luck to you and I hope you find some goodies, I only wish I could be at the beach myself ::g

I was going to do the beach tomorrow morning but the tide times are all wrong. May need to look at Thursday or even Friday.

Gona hit the beach at Talacre this morning and be there at the crack of dawn. Probably get the same old WWII scrap; or maybe the beach will throw up a few surprises. :-SS

Just checked my local beach and it seems the sea has dumped more sand on it rather then stripping it back.... Better luck next time ;;z Always seems to be the case here in East Sussex. When it's northly it just seems to plie it up, when it's due south 9/10 its been striped back.
