But what is the next step up

Looking ahead into the future could there be a detector that has an on screen display to actually show what metal item is being detected ? This could be the answer to the green waste sites.

When will the new X-Ray Deus be out ?When will the new X-Ray Deus be out ?After having the XP deus for a couple of years I am ready for the next step up

I think that is definitely on the cards at some point, with all the tech we are seeing with the advancement in tablets, mobile phones and what they can achieve at some point in the not so distant future your quote will become reality B-) Regarding the Deus I am not aware of a new model being developed but there maybe someone here in the know. Cheers mrix The pin pointer which integrates with the headphones might come first?
Deus II, 9" & 11", WS6 Mi-6 (upgrade path DEUS x35 9", 13" and 11", WS4, Original XP Deus 9", 11", 13", Elliptical, Fisher F75+Sunray, Minelab X-terra-50)
I think a next step might be some kind of XP HUD (with small ear pieces) that clips on your glasses, or something like in the link below. The display would flash up only useful data (GB and target numbers?), but you would still rely on using your ears. Could mean not needing the remote controllers. Just an idea

I think a machine that told the exact nature or id of a target would take all the fun and genuine interest out of the hobby and would be nothing more than a treasure seeking tool and a nighthawkers dream.
just my opinion Clint Etrac.13" Ultimate Coil.CP3 TT`s
8x6 sef Euroace. Deteknix Pointer, camo,oh yeah! ...does what it says on the box.. Garrett Propointer..ok...(now it's fixed!) Jeff`s big tool! think its unlikely as the deus costs about 5 million to develop so they have to recoup their investment from that machine

I wonder if anyone thought this when metal detector tech moved on from the early days ? no one these days has an issue with being able to discriminate ferrous, none ferrous metals, maybe that advancement also has taken a certain joy away from metal detecting or has it ? Just a thought Cheers mrix
I remember my first detector. I ended digging constant trash without a pinpointer it took forever. I don't miss those days at all.
Now I can dig trash with a top of the range Deus but at least I can find it faster and deeper ![]() Derbyshire based concealed junk removal operative.
Finds of note in 2022 - You know that thing you do when you pull your pockets out to show there's nothing in there? You get the idea.
there are already detectors on the market that give a image of the target , although crude compared to the hypethetical ' x-ray machine ' that would give a clear image . the detectors i am talking about are quite heavy and complicated ,but i am very sure that type of tec will be 'shrunk' and will be incorperated into affordable hobby detectors in the future ,i predict within the next ten years................nostraldamparse
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I heard someone say the same about carp fishing, as in it's only a matter of time before theres some smart eyepiece you can connect to your smart phone that'll show you on screen where all the fish are. He also said that at that time fishing wouldn't be fishing anymore to which my reply was,.....maybe not but if such an app/tool became available there'd be a que all the way to Scotland for people buying them. I think it'd go exactly the same way with detectors that could visually show whats in the ground...There'd be moans from the back row but 5 years down the road everyone (almost) would be using them.......You can't stop progress! ... kids in 3014 will be using stuff we can't even imagine today. Just sent an Email to XP head office , I want to stick with the 11" coil but would prefer a longer stem on my X-Ray machine , will also go for the full colour 5.2" screen version

Metal detecting is in a state of balance, the ones enjoying the hoby are happy with the present technology and grateful for the occasional tweaks here and there and content to detect good finds through skill and experience .. and some luck.
If we suddenly had a machine that could "see" whats in the ground, the hobby of metal detecting would be finished inside a year as there would be chaos. b;> The land would be pillaged at any opportunity and anything lying underground would soon disappear. I have a special field that yields hammies. I know where the hoard lies but am happy enough to detect all around the site each year. I could pinpoint the exact spot and dig down to find the main cache but of course its then all gone and its the end of my very enjoyable trips there. ![]() I hope technology does not overtake this great hobby, I am happy with what I have, Liam ![]() Deus, WSi's - In the end we will regret the chances we didn't take, the relationships we were afraid to have and decisions we waited too long to make ..
