Probem? DEUS Chattering in all programs bar BASIC 2

Hi All,
Im not sure if this is an issue or not. So thought i'd throw it out there and see if anyone else has had the same issues. Currently this is with the 13" Coil, i havent tried it with the 9".

I don't know whether its atmospherics or something else. But when I use programs other than Basic 2 the machine is almost constantly chattering. Even when I hold the coil in the air. This is on land where it has not done it on previous occasions.

There are moments when I can use other programs without a constant noise with it only appearing every few steps when there is nothing there. But eventually it comes back to a constant noise and becomes unbarable.

Any Thoughts?

Have you tried changing frequency ? also try frequency shifting if you have a remote, lastly try it in a different area altogether, these tests will confirm outside interference from something or whether it's the coil with a problem.

I've gone through all the programs on the remote which have the different frequencies. Basic 1, GMP, Fast, G-Maxx etc and they all show the same issue. I've just turned it on in work and it was still going off. I will try at home later as well and see what it does as well.

I put the 9inch on as well (at work) and it practically stopped bar some minimal chattering.

Edit: Tried changing the frequency in a couple of the programs - did quieten down a bit, when I put on 11.5 it seemed to go mental again......


May try a reset.

I get this on some fields .. Usually it gets worse the lower the freq I use

I guess you've tried reducing sensitivity and tx to 2?

Also, have you tried changing GB modes and going into expert and notching back to 85?

Electric fences are my only problem over the last 5 years with the Deus.

If Iam not allowed to switch the fence off I just walk away out of range.

With a probe or a minelab M/F machine nearby, just change the frequency by a few decimal points in a matter of seconds. Jerry.

The issue i have is that the fields I've been on of late never gave me these issues until lately. Now they have all of a sudden appeared..

I have tried reducing sens down and its still going off under 75 and id rather keep it as per the norm. I havent touched the TX settings and i shall try the freq shift in the expert settings later on

It sounds like a faulty coil mate . I had the same problem with it on program 3 using a 11" coil .i spoke to regtons and sent the coil back and it was faulty and they sent me a brand new one next day

I have had similar problems, and have countered them by;

Updating the firmware so that all coils, headphones, and remotes are running the same version.

Removing the coil cover and washing the coil thoroughly in fresh running water..

Moving my mobile phone to a back pocket or switching it off.

Reducing the frequency very slightly.

Manual ground balancing.

I operate full tones all the time and find that all the above help. In highly mineralised soil conditions a reduction in sensitivity can help.

Thanks for the suggestions. The only other one left to try will be the manual GB then. Everything else has been tried recently apart from freq shift as mentioned by Nigel.

I had the exact same problem with a 9" coil on my Deus, the chatter was constant and the machine unusable. I did a full 3.2 software re-install and that didn't help.
I contacted XP directly, they told me to take it or send it to Regton's who would lend me a spare coil whilst the problem was fixed.
In the end XP gave me a brand new 9" coil which I subsequently updated to an 11" when I returned to Regtons.
I found the help from XP and Regtons to be first class.

A re-install also did not make any difference.

The 9" coil is fine and works as it should.

So it seems there is an issue with the coil and unfortunatly the detector is out of warranty.

Has anyone paid for a coil fix and if so how much could I be looking at to sort this issue out? Also, how long a wait have people experienced? Thanks

I had the same problem and sent it off to Nigel, it was sent to France for a repair and had the transmitter replaced, was around £45 worth every penny.
