The use of 4hz with Deus

Post by Oldfart »

Just purchased a Xp deus and got lots to learn about using it on different frequencies,looking through the deus Users Manual I see that none of the factory preset programes use the 4hz frequency.so my question is what benefit would I get from using it in any off the factory preset programes. =P~

The 4kHz for iron rejection is explained well here by 'Peacehavens' Ged Dodd: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

4khz is supposed to offer a bit more depth but less accuracy when trying to determine what a signal "looks" like .. It's meant to find larger objects at depth whereas 17khz is meant to find smaller items

It's also meant to offer another band of frequency to negate overhead/underground cables as well

In my experience it just makes the machine more chatty and unstable .. It will pick up every bit of coke and iron and I very rarely use it preferring to stick to 11khz in my custom programmes and maybe using 17khz in fast mode in very iron infested grounds

4khz will punch down a bit further but I tend to find most of the really good stuff is in the upper 1"-5" range anyway

Congrats on your new machine :D

I wouldn't worry about 4khz "missing" from the factory pre-sets. Just get out there and use GMP for most sites. You'll soon learn about any adjustments if you feel the need to alter anything.

Today The PAST team used GMP standard, Tracking on all three Déus' and found several items including 5 hammered, a gold plated Celtic stater and a nice Roman follis.

Enjoy ;)
