nel big coil repair required

Post by andya »

Hi there
I have an open circuit fault on the coil end. You wiggle the lead and it goes on and off.

The contacts page for nel doesnt work. Does anyone know who repairs them in the uk, how much, and whether its worth it?

Many thanks
Andy

If the break is further enough from the coil (you will need about 10 mm from the surface of the coil). You could splice a new cable in.

How old is the coil,is it still not under warranty ??? Regtons are the main UK dealers, but of course if you bought it direct from another source then you need to get in contact with them.

You dont provide a great amount of details about the coil apart from the fact its faulty ie like how old it is,original purchase location.

Its about 2 years old. I brought it second hand from a bloke who had used it twice but couldnt get used to the weight! Not sure I could get back in touch with him to find out where he got it from.

The dodgy part of the lead is within the case of the coil, not sure I want to attempt the repair as I might damage the casing trying to prise it out. Correct me if im wrong...

If that is the case then, the only thing i can suggest is see if Regtons if it is still covered by the Serial No on the coil or just ask them if they can help with a repair. It may cost you but that is possibly your last chance.

Unlucky they normally break at the top of the strain relief.

If its inside the coil its not an easy repair.

I've repaired a few coils and replaced pins on Garrett coils. Mainly breaks in the cable, I was only unable to repair one where the cable was broken and corroded right at the epoxy in the coil itself.

If you can't get it replaced or repaired give me a shout, I'll try my best but can't promise anything.

Cable breaks are rarely covered by warranty, it's classed as wear & tear. ;;z

Additionally, if the break is down at coil end it's rarely salvageable, XP coils we can because they provide a kit of parts to enable us to repair 90% of them & their design makes that possible but they are the only ones I know of.

Gary may be your best bet.......

Just drop me a pm and I'll give you my address, you cover the return postage and I'll return it fixed or not.

This time I'll do a photo guide for my website, another happy customer.

http://www.metaldetectingforum.co.uk/vi ... 92&t=77267" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No repair no fee, if I fix it no fee, I know how much these things cost and I'm happy to help you get back detecting.
