Which part do you require a battery for? If for the coil then you're best off sending it in to XP in France to get it done and re-sealed properly, but if for the controller or headphones then you can just replace those yourself with any 3.7v power source. The controller has a 630mah lipo battery in it. Of course if you want to be able to charge the battery while it's in the controller, like the original, make sure any replacement you buy has a protection circuit attached. ::g

As a related question, would XP change the battery within the warranty period (under warranty) or could they say its wear and tear :-/

If it helps anyone trying to source their own LiPo cell, the part number printed on them is based on the physical dimensions of the cell. I think it's 742045, (which refers to 7.4mm (thick) x 20mm (wide) x 45mm (long)). Edit: I found a listing on French eBay for the replacement, which confirms this. But you'll have to track down the listing yourself...(forum rules)

The actual capacity ( eg. 630mAh ) isn't the important bit, it's likely that newer versions of that battery may be slightly larger in capacity, maybe 650mAh, 680mAh.

Sometimes, bare LiPo cells are sold. The battery protection circuit-board on the XP cell should in principle be transferrable to a bare LiPo cell, but it's one for the skilled workman - or the smoke might escape. But look for ones with protection electronics fitted as standard if you can.

This thread is also worth a read:

I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone attempting to remove the circuit protection from the original battery to add to a new battery! That's just asking for trouble. Lipos can be very dangerous if handled incorrectly. Equally they can be extremely safe when handled properly and charged using a proper lipo charger. You cannot charge a lipo safely using a non-lipo charger, so don't even try it!

The milliamp rating on batteries are notoriously inaccurate anyway, just get a decent branded one if going down the replacement route, making sure to check it fits of course. It only takes 4 screws to undo the control box so it's easy enough to measure for yourself.

And when replacing it... never ever short circuit a lipo battery when fitting a connector to the leads. If in doubt, get it done professionally and pay the extra money. They'd probably do it for you in a place like Maplins at a guess.

Nigel at regtons

Yes we do still sell the batteries, self fit, genuine XP batteries are £31.95 for remote or headphones, the coil battery is a different story, it really needs to be done by an XP repair agent as there are many potential pitfalls some can scrap the coil altogether :(

Hope this helps.
