CS1220XD (GREY VERSION) a new start ;)

Post by SMIFF »

Hello Cscope(ers),
Jumping over here to post my latest journey , just got a CS1220XD.

Why,
I read it takes time to learn and some really neg comments but expect thats from people who did not give it a chance, what really got me hocked was the manual suggesting you use your " minds eye" I have one of those and I love the feedback aspect of this hobby.

So it has had a brush up and a gentle clean and scrubs up well ( would look great olive drab) but its grey.

The Cam lock looks like it has a hairline crack, few chips off the tent pole style stem and a bend on the cuff.

it has a very Retro look but as I say scrubbed up well.

My questions(2) to anyone who can help, I have been doing a few in house air test not the best place I know but it’s out in Essex fields tomorrow ::g

I am going to use Audio Meter Disc but will end up GD1-2 no doubt but ……

1:If I tune it up so tone is just on, can I then turn the Tune dial without pressing the tune button, raise the volume without any reconfiguration issue? in short:

Press hold Tune button, Tune dial to just hearing tone, release Tune Button then turn Tune dial to increase volume?

2: on GD1 & 2 and sometimes if the tone fades on the presents Audio Meter Disc and Meter Disc if I press the discrim button the volume peaks back in and I have to retune to lover volume?
Is this a Fault?

I have to say I have contacted the superb customer services at CScope today and after this weekend will make its way to Kent for a return to base look see how it’s getting on and hopefully the experts at CS can advise.
NB: I guess I should wait to see how it goes in the Essex fields but eager bever I am would like to hear if anyone had same issue/ knows about the Volume option befor I take it out.

Many thanks in advance

So this is what happened:

I'm new to the CS1220XD and yesterday spent time with a mate following to compare signals.

To be fair it was a very quiet site (done to death in the past)

But should I expect dramatic change on stuff to dig.

I run the unit in AudioMeterDisc mode for the tones to start with but got the impression it was not as deep in this mode, so after about 4 hrs I went manual on GD2 with about midway disc.

Now in all metal mode this was great for letting me know metal was down there but with no Idea at what end of the ferrous crap to good scale I was in, so I would switch to AMD mode to get the tone ID to decide if to dig, most of the time it was a growl so moved on ( some very left into the red some just halfway)

I went all metal mode because I was not hearing any great change from the Tuned tone upwards even on copper & lead targets I dug, if anything it went down, now it is a shame it don’t work in reverse as I noticed the drop without issue ( FYI my hearing was tested last month and capable of the frequencies delivered)

I only noticed a change when I hit an on a surface lump of Iron or Tin can, they did Scream at me.

I have also done air tests on a few silver coins and they don’t Jump out at me as expected!

Question:

Should the silver be an really obvious pitch change?

How do you determine in all metal mode what is down there ( I did at one point have the discrim all the way but only noticed a few silences with needle dropping to the red)

What I did notice is if you retune just to the side of your found object this really allows you to pinpoint and gauge the units size and to a point it's depth.

Lets hope the unit is not Faulty, anyhow its packed up and going back for CS to give it a once over.

Never used the machine myself. Best wait and see if the machine gets a clean bill of health before you examine it's current performance too deeply. ::g

I had one bought it for 10 quid and it was thrash i used it on the Thames once and got 2 silver coin and lots of lead ......it was easy to set up but dont remenber the G1 and G2 setting retune as soon as the needle is not centred and i sold it but i should have kept it ......socket was gone and it was wired straight onto the board and the speaker case was cracked but it was still working ok......Cscope machine Cs66o and 990 and 1220 are mysteriously very good in iron trash maybe not deep but for that you have the rest of the range..........

I have had the Grey CS 1220XD for 10 years, but after an upgrade it was standig for 3 years waiting to go out now and then.. Now sold it off for a 150 £( it was very well manitained )
I really did love it and it was a Non Motion detector.. To give advise, is difficult for me, as it is a bit back and english is not my main language. But mostly used it in Audio meter disc.. Retune often an GB.. Specially on the beach.. I will say a very good starter ( it was once back in late 90 an Higend machine, but can be picked up for low cost today) I specially forund the upgrade to XP really easy, so if you dreams ever goes on..
