Garrett AT Pro 8 x 5 Coil Cover Problem

Post by Digemdeep »

I bought the 8 x 5 AT Pro coil together with it's coil cover a couple of weeks ago.
The problem is the cover does not fit snuggly over the coil.
The cover fits tightly around the outside of the coil, but does not grip the inner part of the coil sufficiently to prevent the cover from bulging out in the center by around 3/16", allowing wet sand or soil to fill up the gap. This is a definite design fault, and I have had to use a small cable tie to keep the cover close to the coil. It seems Garrett have not addressed the problem, according to my supplier. ;;z ;;z

Don't hold me responsible if this dosent work but a friend had same problem and put the coil cover in a bowl of really hot (just off boiling) water and it caused the cover to shrink then put it on the coil and it cured the problem ....but they might of just been lucky as there's no way to control how much the plastic retracts due to the heat :-L

I think we've already suggested the hot water method to Digemdeep, sadly no other cure that we know of.

If it was my own coil/cover I would try hot water first (as jaksprat suggested) & if that didn't improve the fit I would, clean the coil/cover very carefully and then apply silicon sealant around the outer & inner edges of coil/cover and then leave 24 hrs, the coil cover should not require removal till it's worn out but it will indeed overcome the issue.

Hope this helps.
