Lanzarote Beach detecting for anyone interested

Post by Cherryhunter »

I've got a family holiday planned for June and want to do a bit of beach detecting.

I e-mailed the tourist board....RESULT ::g

Dear Matthew,

Thank you for your e-mail

Beach detecting shouldn't be a problem since it's not forbidden. Please consider to avoid the practice on peak times to the start/end of the day

Kind regards,

Paula

Had a family holiday in Playa Blanca a few years ago and the bloke that rented out the sunbeds on the beach used to go round with a metal detector at the end of the day.

These are volcanic sand beaches "magnetic sand as iron"
I have a friend who is going, a gold ring all the same

almost impossible to detect
take a small drive to limit the effects of soil and a ring for testing on area
limiting the power can be
and tried to find white sandy areas, but I think will be very hard...

but as they are very hard to detect there are certainly many things to find

Good luck and we debrief return ::g

All the tourist areas beaches are white sand; Playa Blanca,Puerto Del Carmen and Costa Teguise.

There is a Guardia Civil 'barracks' near Costa Teguise. If they tell you not to detect, it's wise to agree with them. They don't mess about. The King of Spain has a pad just outside Costa Teguise.

Hi All. I would not totally believe what the tourist board have told you as the Local council told us the same thing, sometimes its not a local / council law i would check with the sports dept. of the Reginal council they will tell you if you need a permit or not. Not wishing you a problem but just be sure its ok. HH beachboy :-SS

To be honest HH beachboy I am a little concerned myself..

I've e-mailed the tourist board again asking them if they can check with the sports dept/council to make sure beach detecting is permitted and is a permit required.. X:)

hopefully they will make some inquiries and let me know...

Hi Cherryhunter. Yes its worth checking just in case, the local Council also the Local Police told us the same thing as you all ok no problems just enjoy yourselves , but was pulled over by the Guardia and got very funny about no permit. Lets hope you get the right reply. Remember you cannot take Lithium Batteries in hold lugged only hand luggage. Good Luck . beachboy ::g

Just came back from Playa Blanca . Lanzarote ... beaches were really rammed full with
folk on the hot sunny days , the sun paraphernalia loungers and umbrella seemed all taken
and many just lie down on towels or just on the sand .. if I had my MD I would have give it a go
early / late times for a nice haul maybe ... I did not see one MD-er at all in my stay ,, there are several grades of Police officer on the prowl though but they seem to not bother with anything at all , maybe its the Spanish way ;)

With regard to beach detecting in Lanzarote, it shouldn't be a problem. I have lived in Lanzarote now for 2 years and never had a problem. Like any beach detecting though, keep a low profile and search after folks have left the beach, or indeed very early. The beaches in Puerto del Carmen are raked every night with a tractor and have to be the cleanest beaches I have seen....in all respects. After searching amongst the sun beds one evening, after two hours I came away with seventeen low denomination coins and two bottle caps! Quite the opposite of what you would expect. I can speak a limited amount of Spanish and it always goes down well with the police if, when approached you try to communicate in Spanish. It will be greatly appreciated however badly it appears. Don't be surprised if they try to reply back in English. I don't see a problem with the authorities but if in doubt, go to the Policia Local office or the Guardia Civil with an interpreter just to put your mind at rest once and for all as local laws may differ between municipalities. Interpreter services are advertised in the local English monthly magazine (The Gazette) and for some euros, it would be worth putting your mind at rest one way or the other.

Lucky you. I have come to mainland Spain for the Winter (Jan-Apr) I saw two guys detecting on the beach and I asked if getting permission was easy. One of the showed me a folder (Half inch thick) that contained letters of permission. He also told me that a a visitor I would have great difficulty getting Permission Letters and said if I came on the beach without these letters I would receive a heavy fine. I went to the local police station and basically said NO CHANCE. Grrrrrr. B|
