Weymouth BH Weekend Advice

Post by Allthegearnoidea »

Hi all

I am having a few days in Weymouth this weekend and haven't been before so asking for a bit of advice.

I understand there is no detecting between 9am and 6pm so the low tides are not in my favour. I am with my 8yo daughter so finding anything will be a plus.

So if that is the case where would you advise I detect , is it worth going as near to the sea as possible or stick to the dry sand ?

Also is one particular end or centre part of the beach favourable as it looks like a large beach by the pictures.

I would appreciate any comments, thanks in advance.

Have a great time and happy hunting, love Weymouth but never detected there. The enemy would go mad if I packed the detector for a coastal break 8-|

as for there being no detecting between certain hours, whenever i have been there i have always seen a few guys detecting within those hours mainly toward the sealife tower end. i have detected that beach a few times but never had any success other than modern coinage and plenty of ring pulls from the dry sand, however it is a very popular beach so i chose to detect when the tide was out in the wee early hours when i was there last to avoid the general public. word of advise, it is a very shallow tide from low water to high so bathers do venture out quite far and only end up knee/thigh deep in the water.

Thanks all just got back.

Managed to get out for three mornings at about 6am for a couple of hours a time. First couple of mornings tried the wet sand first as there is a patch where black sand and hard pack are in reach. Finds were scarce and even then we're modern coins so decided to just try the dry stuff this morning after large crowds Sunday. Found about £16 an iPhone and also a Sony phone in the same hole as a set of car and house keys . Handed them all in to the beach control centre as google maps took us to a Police station no longer in use. Let's hope the guy who lost them try's there as otherwise could be stranded. Anyway three gorgeous mornings and virtually had the beach to myself , only saw another three detectors who came out later, top place Weymouth.

Now where can Igo to get pre decimal coins to show my daughter ?
