What forums update to Recent Topics?

Post by fred »

Hi

Just posted a response to a post in the News and General Chat forum. I noticed that it has not appeared in the recent topics screen that appears when I log in. Further checks through the forums came up with stuff that either also never appeared in Recent Topics or that I missed. Does anybody know which topics or posts automatically appear there please?

Cheers

Hello all, the General Chat & News forum does not show on the recent topics list. many years ago there was a problem where members only wished to post in the General forum thinking that was the most busy and active forum giving more exposure to their topics, Yes it was the busiest forum at the time and yes it was great for their topic to gain more views, unfortunately it was damaging for the MDF resource, many specific and very useful topics would just get washed away in a tide of other topics and be very hard to find. Its a far better and easier to use resource if members can post in the correct more relevant forum for their specific topic, if your a member or a visitor looking for specific information on something metal detecting related you can now easily find that information by clicking on the relevant forums here where information content will be dedicated to that subject ::g
To overcome the initial problem and to stop members only using the General Chat forum to post the idea was to simply stop that forum being listed on the recent topics list enticing more members to use the more relevant forums to post their specific topics.
This idea has worked very well, the only downside is many members will need to enter the General chat & News forum to see any updated topics.
Cheers all
