Welsh Beaches
I have recently taken up the hobby to spend time with my young daughter and although she loves finding modern coins on beaches I would like to find some non decimal coins to show her.
Can anyone recommend any beaches either in South or West Wales where I might have the best chance of fulfilling that expectation.
Thanks in advance

You will find pre decimal coins on most beaches if the conditions are right.
Found at Kinmel bay, Conwy and Talacre and pretty much anywhere in between. But you can go and find nothing.

I used to live near Cardigan in West Wales and there are lots of holiday beaches. Aberporth is small but it gets very crowded in the season. The sands shift around a lot in winter too. I found lots of modern coins, bits of missiles and drones (it was a test area might still be), odd things like sunglasses, multitool and of course fishing weights. The beach is divided by a headland and right on the point are some rocks, usually buried in sand in the summer with plenty of cracks for things to lodge in. At the mouth of the Tivvy is Poppet Sands another popular holiday beach which gets very crowded. Access is via Cardigan Town. If you look on Google Earth you can see an ancient line of rocks that form a fish trap on the south shore this is ancient. Some interesting geology too. Again modern coins and the odd mobile phone found here.
Even if you don't find much both are great places to visit.
Tresaith is another beach just north of Aberporth with the bonus of a great pub right on the beach.
parking is the only problem, apart from the weather of course but when it's good it's great.
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies both.
I stay in a small place called Cenarth near Newcastle Emlyn and have tried Poppet, Aberporth, Tresaith , Llangranog and Newquay recently but only modern finds or nothing at the lower end of the tides. On the dry then around £5 per trip in about 2 hours, By the way why is it that the majority of finds are either 20p or £1 coins it's a strange phenomenon ?

I searched Aberporth and Tresaith all the beaches around that area are worth searching i found a gold half guinea at tresaith beach but i had to clear 15 £1 coins first and then i recieved a signal very deep in amongst the stones and it was the gold coin , LLangranog beach is also good to search i had a few rings on this beach and found a platinum ring that had been lost i returned it to the loser and recieved £50 reward good luck with your searches .

Thanks topcat,
Seems unbelievable that you could find a gold coin on Tresaith beach , my daughter's expectations will now go through the roof
Bit of a nightmare digging down through those rocks but I might persevere now I know there might be something decent lurking beneath.

1p, 2p, 5p & 10p coins are now all iron cored with a very thin coating of copper so your machine is probably discriminating those out. The 50p pieces are not that common in change nowadays so not many get lost.Allthegearnoidea wrote:........... I use a PI machine on beaches and can tell when a beach has been well searched as I find plenty of the 1p, 2p, 5p & 10p coins and not many of the £1 & 20p

It's all the Headless Hunters fault !!
