Re: Burnham on sea beach

I didn't realise how close we were to the coast on a group dig the other day in Burnham on Sea. That white tower (old mill?) was just across from the detecting fields. I had no idea the beach was so close or I might have taken a trip over there!

I assume that loss of the Blue flag has more to do with foreign objects ... as opposed to the EU or are you saying that once we get out of the EU... they'll get their flag back?

I guess thats the joys of sat-nav for you.. In the good old days of the AA road maps you would know instantly whether you were near the coast or not, unless the mrs was doing the map reading of course!

I find that quite amusing to think that people rely on their sat nav to such an extent that they don't really know where they are when they get to their chosen destination. I like to look at Google Earth before I set off anywhere, as my sat nav delights in sending me off up cart tracks or miles out of my way through woodland if it thinks I don't know any better. :-L

The Ferret said, "After metal detecting beaches id never walk barefoot on sand again".

Whenever my friends and I have gone to our favourite detecting beach very early in the morning there are a team of people already there busily filling up numerous black bin bags with all the horrible rubbish that people have left behind the previous day. Without their efforts, this privately managed beach would quickly resemble a land fill site. I would add that there are an abundance of large size rubbish bins near the car park area but used nappies, food trays and bottles etc are left on the surface or buried a few inches into the sand. I always detect on the wet sand wearing boots and like "The Ferret" says I would never walk bare foot on the sand or allow children to do so.
