Carry on digging?

Post by BigHenry »

Hi Folks

First time out with the Deus Lite and I got a really crisp signal using Basic 1 on pasture.

I dug a hole about 4 inches deep and the signal is right in the center of the hole reading 85 but it did not register on the pinpoint probe so I kept digging.

In the end I got down to about 14 inches - signal still 85 in the center of the hole and still nothing on the probe?

It took me about half an hour through stones etc - really tiring.

I am going back to the same permission next week, my question is would you give the hole another go or forget about it? If it is not registering on the probe how deep is it and what could it be?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

No shouting please - I am a newbie :))

Probably deep iron .. What number was on the display? ... If it's in the 90s then almost certainly iron.

I'd give it another go , firstly I'd gauge how big it is though , if your getting a signal that's ' long ' I'd suggest it's deep iron and a bit of plough of something similar , if it's a short nice crisp signal , I'd go around the whole again but about 4 - 5 inches from the original hole , take a good deep spade full then scan over the spoil , if it's not out , run your probe slowly around the hole , starting at the top and going down , if you don't get a signal in the wall , but in the bottom then if give it one last spade full .... 85-90 sudgets to me that it's deep iron anf you normally see the soil change colour to a rusty colour ::g

Thanks for all the input folks.

I guess the only way to learn is to dig virtually everything until I get experienced.

The problem was I had a crisp signal 82-85 both ways which I thought was in the center of the hole.

I never thought of widening the hole, I just went deeper - doh :)

I am going back next week and having another go at it.

Cheers

I had this twice with the Deus lite and ended up digging massive craters over many days ,they ended up many feet deep and 4 feet in diameter and found nothing..I put it down to oxides in the soil which was sandy .they weren't hot rocks but oxide coated small rocks..they were such beautiful SIG's I would sworn they were small hoards

Dig and dig, however i sometimes find what I call "sub atomic particles" with the deus, lead shot, yep that small, not saying its shot, but to be aware that really small stuff can give a good signal, depending of course on your settings, good luck with whatever it turns out to be, and let us know?

Hi,
If your picking up a signal from 14" away but nothing with a pointer at the bottom of the hole chances are the target is off to the side of the hole.... as already stated by Davybfast

If your in right mood and the weather is ok , what the hell , dig it again, you never know your luck.
