Explorer se on mineralised ground
So I get asked by farmer on my largest permission to see if I can find 3 plough tips worth est £150 each, sounds simple.. but this ground is the worst I've ever seen with mineralised ground. Every swing I'm getting constant grunts. The grunts are the same sound as iron as I'm in ferrous mode. Even drop sensitivity to 1, as it's been ploughed and large items should still be found. Even try in cond mode but even worse now as every mineralised grunt is now a high tone. Fast and deep off. Open screen. If I was looking for non ferrous item then no problem as in ferrous mode I still get good high tones, but as I'm looking for an iron signal which is the same as the mineralised signal.. any advice welcome. Thanks .

With zero disc a large iron target should blow ya ears of compaired to mineralised soil chatter/sounds I would of thought, unmissable I reckon? Obviously your going to get loads and loads of noise but with no disc a plough part should scream through!

3 large tips in a field is luxury - we usually get asked to find things like a 5mm nut from a shotgun in the slurry pond!Digiffys wrote:With zero disc a large iron target should blow ya ears of compaired to mineralised soil chatter/sounds I would of thought, unmissable I reckon? Get the farmer to provide a spare tip for you to try different programmes out on. Then simply use the programme which gives you the most distinctive signal.

Impossible to dig everything when its sounding off 3 times on each swing. Its the only permission I get this and its always on cropped ploughed land. Ended up swinging it in pinpoint mode.. even sens on 1 it was still grunting. Found a few coins as non ferrous was fine ie high tone. Mineralisation sounds the same as iron..
Lost pen knifes are the most common find request of the farmer for mefred wrote:3 large tips in a field is luxury - we usually get asked to find things like a 5mm nut from a shotgun in the slurry pond!Digiffys wrote:With zero disc a large iron target should blow ya ears of compaired to mineralised soil chatter/sounds I would of thought, unmissable I reckon? I agree - I'd listen closely to the strength of the signal you're getting through..a plough part should make a high volume sound.. any grunts or low volume targets can be ignored. Also ask your farmer if he has an idea where the plough parts were lost. He should be able to tell which part of the field he lost it.

I suppose they could be quite deep, at least down to the plough depth....But on the flip side of that i think in places they lift the plough like at end of the run...
Maybe concentrate your searching on areas where the plough is lifted as this would seem one of the obvious places for it to fall off once it had been loosened

Or search the most stoney areas as these would loosen/knock off the tips

Yes we know where roughly, but impossible as if in conductive then it's constantly squealing due to the mineralisation so can't distinguish, as a large piece of plough iron would also squeal through on conductive. If I'm in ferrous then all the mineralisation grunts just like the sound of iron as it's in ferrous mode ??? So what to do ??

And it's a very stoned field which probably made the damage.. never known mineralisation in fields like this. cheers guys. Sj

If the mineralisation sounds the same as large iron targets, and you can't ignore them (as they're on the same frequency) I don't think there is a solution, alas.

Run it in all metal. The constant "weeeee" of the mineralisation will be broken by either the "Marrpphh" of a non ferrous target OR a deeper toned "Buurrffff" of large iron.
Most shear tips this days are stainless or similar so will blow your ears off & come in top right.

Jcmalone I might wrong but why would ss come top right. It's ferrous so left hand side. I'm in all metal that's how I hunt. Didn't get chance to ask if he had a spare or old tip but assumed that as it's ss or even iron then both would be far left and also sounds the same as the mineralised soil ? See if the warrior can sort it next weekend.
