mars search coils

Post by johntm »

hi,has anyone used any of the mars search coil range,i am thinking of getting the 10x13.
seems that nel or detect coils are popular at the momment,so just wondered how mars coils perform.

I've got one (10x13) on a Eurotek pro at the moment. There's no doubt it's better than the standard 8" coil but I didn't have the bigger Eurotek DD coil to compare against so it may have been no better - I'll never know. In general I'm happy with the coil. It looks the biz and works well. Pinpointing is as good as you are. I've bashed it around a bit and it still looks like new.
If the money isn't a problem then just buy it. If it is then you'll need to do a comparative test with your machine and your current coil. I think it really depends what you have now.
The other thing that crossed my mind after I bought the coil was whether I would have been better with a different machine that already included a better coil.

Choices......choices.

Have the mars tiger coil on the T2 LTD and love it,pinpointing seems easier and the signals clearer, haven't noticed any increase in depth to be honest over the stock coil but as meat loaf said two out of three aint bad HH Neil :D :D

The Mars Tiger Coil is reckoned to be very good, but many users report that they don't notice any great difference compared to the best coil produced by their Detector Manufacturer. Maybe a little 'sharper', that's all. I nearly bought a Mars Tiger for my Teknetics Eurotek Pro.

However, I was swayed by the the Mars Goliath. It's a big thing (circular 15"), but it has transformed my machine. I get deeper, clearer, signals and unless I'm in tough stubble it's no real extra weight to swing.

As others have posted here, it's so tough that you don't need a Coil Cover.

It's my favourite coil for sure.

I use the Mars Sniper coil, and I like it :-), light robust.....
If I am correct, than the new coils from Mars will be delivered with coil cover.

hi all, thanks for the feed back,i run an explorer 2,and took the old 10in search coil off ,and replaced with minelab 800 coil,to be honest the smaller coil performed realy well over the 10in one, less weight ect, ect, but after a layoff of detecting for 5 or six years i feel i need to update the coil to a larger one.i was getting good results from the 800 coil, but it would leave you wondering,am i loosing depth, and i probably am.so its a toss up between, detech, nel,or mars, the thunder coil looks like the coil i will go for,in the stats it has better separation than the 10x13 or the 12x10.but it dosnt seem to be as popular as the slightly smaller seffs, nels.so here we go paranoia setting in lol.

Was running the explorer before the T2 ,bought the ultimate coil but couldn't get to grips with it.At a rally swapped it with a mate for the nel tornado coil and loved it,seemed deeper, tones clearer and pinpointing was spot on. HH Neil
