Ground Balancing XP Deus

I have only had the XP Deus a few weeks but have never ground balanced it yet. I always ground balanced the T2 so is it necessary to GB the Deus or just for certain conditions?

About a million Deus topics on here that deal with the Deus, so have a good look through them, plus you really do need to read the handbook that came with the machine. The answer is no in that it will default to Manual GB and have a default setting but you can also achieve better than that by other means including Tracking when the machine continuously tries to match the mineralisation.
Its an easy machine to use, a switch on and go type but you need to read the handbook just a little.

Its a really good handbook, easy enough to follow and the preset programs will serve you well for now, I use GMP, on Tracking mostly, have the old 9 ins coil and it does the job superbly. Liam

I change my gb manually just keep eye on number if doesn't drop below 85/86 leave in 90

I have had the Deus for about 5years and I only use tracking, seems to work fine for me.

As highlighted, using the default ground balance value will work. However, you will not be getting the best out of the machine. If you feel happy using it at the default as you get used the machine then just go with it.

As you start to set or dynamically use the GB there are a few things that you probably want to start doing. As already highlighted reading the user manual is a great start. If anything concentrate on the GB section. As your out using your machine try to check what the GB value is showing you. I have got into the habit of using manual and checking mine every 10 to 15 minutes. If you use the tracking feature then you need to be aware that after so many sweeps over a target it will be assumed it's a variation in the GB and the target may disappear as the GB is changed. I think this is something like 8 sweeps and the target may be lost.

They are great machines that take a little practice to learn so give it time and enjoy!!!

I would like to use tracking on the ground balance more often but for some reason I read somewhere that when you are on terrain with moderate iron contamination you can actually ground balance to the iron, thus causing the Deus to massively lose depth and become erratic. I use Gary's advice of leaving it in 90 and keeping an eye on the numbers to keep within 3 or 4.

I don't know if this is right or not but may be something to think about if you use tracking on iron contaminated sites.

I just keep mine on manual at 90. I've tried lowering the ground balance but I don't like how chatty it gets. Perhaps I should be setting it more accurately. Would it make much of a noticeable difference with regard to depth and help the detector 'see' desirable targets better. I'm not really sure

As I understand it, the potential impact of an incorrect GB may cause additional chatter including false signals and loss of depth. To be honest, would we really know and do we ever really check that often and record how deep every target is and how chattery we perceive the machine is operating today.

You may be right in that there is minimal difference. I know one thing, if they have written a book on it they certainly know more than me (which won't take much to beat).

I generally try to keep GB to within a few numbers. Last outing on pasture which read GB of 84, after changing programmes I had no target numbers at all on a deeper signal until I dropped GB manually from 90 to 86, then it gave steady target numbers, it just goes to show. Not got that A.S. book but think i read somewhere that it is better to have GB set a bit higher rather than lower, anyone? Not noticed any extra chatter except when I am near that electric fence

In some really freezing weather I do get some horrible chatter .... but its just my teeth!
